Anne Marie Lutz on Magic in Fantasy/Nine Halloween Book Giveaways!
Yesterday, I posted a review of Anne Marie Lutz's new fantasy novel, Color Mage. Today, Anne Marie writes about different forms of magic in fantasy.
Don't forget to check out the giveaways! At the end of the post are the links all Halloween prizes. Please leave a comment for Anne Marie to be entered to win one of five ebook copies of my short stories, Annals of the Immortyls.
All giveaways end on 10/31/12 at 11 p.m. EST and will be chosen by random drawing, except for B.K. Walker's Gift Basket, which is a Rafflecopter giveaway (details at that post).
Denise, thanks for inviting me to do this post! October is
the perfect time to blog about magic.
October is the best month of the year. The weather is
incredible, but things are changing. I'm always reminded of time passing, and
it almost seems as if doors are open that are not usually there. So it's a good
time to think of other worlds, other realities, and magic.
Fantasy fiction is almost defined by magic. There are
fantasies without magic, but they are rare. I thought I'd try to categorize
some of the kinds of fantasy magic for this post.
Individual ability. We are all very familiar with
this. From Harry Potter to the Black Magician books by Trudi Canavan to even my
own novel – fantasy abounds with the idea of a person who finds he or she can
do things most of humanity cannot. Sometimes the talent comes fully developed;
sometimes it needs to be honed through further study. Either way, the novel
frequently explores the coming of age of the new magician, or conflict in the
society these people are part of.
Magical objects. The healing elixir of the Narnia
books. The Arthurian sword in the stone. The One Ring of Lord of the Rings.
More recently, Harry Potter's invisibility cloak or the mirrors in Jonathan
Strange and Mr Norrell. By acquiring such a magical object, the protagonist –
or her enemy – can gain great power. Sometimes the object is so powerful that
using it carries great risks.
Magical creatures. In this type of magic,
otherworldly creatures exist. They may be able to use magical spells or not,
but they are themselves not of our reality. This includes everything from
vampires and werewolves from modern
urban fantasy, to the elves of Tolkien, the monsters of ancient legends and the
dragons of Robin Hobb.
Place magic. The magic is a characteristic of a
specific place – even another world that people from our reality can step into,
and they have to deal with the laws or realities of the magical place. Narnia
is such a place. So is Fionavar, from the novels by Guy Gavriel Kay. The
concept exists even in legends of elves living under enchanted hills, where
time passes differently than it does in the outside world. There is enchantment
as well as danger in such places.
Gods. Magic exists, but is unique to the gods. The
origin of this is in our own ancient myths. Every culture has them. In modern
fantasy, some novels – such as Jennifer Fallon's Demon Child trilogy – have
gods that really exist and influence their worlds.
Thanks, Anne Marie, for sharing your insight with us today! Here is a little information on Anne Marie and Color Mage.

MONSTERS THAT SCARE ME
THE MOST
Thank
you for having me on the blog today. I'm truly honored to be here with all of
you! With the day of the dead approaching fast, let's have a look at some of
the scariest movie monsters ever.
DOPPELGÄNGERS
A
doppelgänger is a person's physical double. Seeing one's own doppelgänger often
heralds death or serious illness. Paranormal investigators believe that the
doppelgänger is an individual's past or future self. In some traditions, the
double has no shadow or reflection.
Here
are two seriously creepy horror movies about doppelgängers...
The
Broken (2009): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBbVSlVUiio
Dream
Lover (1986): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMa9s-gYxyc
EVIL KIDS
There's
something undeniably scary about children gone evil whether it's through
vampirism ("Salem's Lot"), radioactivity ("The Children Of
Ravensback"), aliens ("Village Of The Damned") or just plain
insanity ("Devil Times Five", "We Need To Talk About Kevin”,
"The Good Son").
The
following are my favorite evil kids movies...
The
Children Of Ravensback (1980): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8aJDLCFzo8
Bloody
Birthday (1981): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpiELzyx-Xc
¿Quien
puede matar a un niño? (aka Who Can Kill A Child?, aka Island Of The
Damned)(1976): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-GQThxd3DE&feature=related
THE UNDEAD
As
Jud Crandall says in Pet Sematary: « Sometimes dead is better. » Many
close friends and family members have seen recently deceased people in their
homes, but somehow these real-life encounters with the undead are never as
scary as in the movies.
Ringu
(1998): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbj-Ihy3ncQ
Let's
Scare Jessica To Death (1971): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX4eZD3GiL0
The
Shining (1980): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Cb3ik6zP2I&feature=related
What are your favorite
monsters?

Today, my guest is Fallon, the heroine of Moonlight by Katie Salidas.
Welcome to Sexy Saturday with Cedric, Fallon! I do hope you’ll share a few spicy tidbits,
my darling. Settle into my hot seat of
love. Don’t worry--I never bite unless
invited.
Please introduce yourself and your friends to the readers.
Hey Cedric, thanks for having me
here today. I’m honored, really, but you can put those fangs away. I’m not into
biting.
I know what you’re thinking,
best friend is a vampire and yet I am still creeped out by fangs. I don’t think
I’ll really ever get over it. But, as long as you don’t try to steal a pint of
the old 0-negative, we’re good.
Fallon, I must say, I’m not
usually into humans—unless they are David Bowie, but you, my dear, are quite
the delicious little tidbit. Why don’t
you share a little about your vital statistics?
What makes you such a mouth-watering object of desire?
You really are a flirt, aren’t
you? Alyssa warned me about your sweet talking. I guess I should have listened.
Well, I wouldn’t go as far as saying I’m an object of desire for all men. I
like to think of what I have as Nerd Chic! Brainy sex appeal. The only thing
I’m missing is glasses and I’d have the complete package. In fact, that’s what
Aiden (He’s my sexy wolfman) fell for first. He just loves that I know my way
around a PC.
Tell me a little about yourself—don’t spare any juicy
details.
Well, I’m originally from Vegas,
but recently transplanted to Boston because of the whole Pandora’s Box fiasco.
Hey, no one told me that box was cursed, and as a human I had no choice but to
open it. That’s all in the past though. My family is all back home in Vegas,
I’ve got a mother and brother back there. Dad died when I was young. Hmm, what
else? Oh, I graduated from UNLV with my Bachelor of Science in Computer
Information Systems. I wanted to go back and finish my masters, but, well, life
happened. Or really, should I call that un-death? I’m not sure how vamps really
“see” that whole immortality thing. Anyway, I’m getting off topic here.
Once we (Alyssa and the rest of
the Peregrinus clan) hit Boston, I met my wolfman and we’ve been inseparable
ever since.
Share a little of your
fascinating world. What is it like to
“run with the pack”, so to speak?
Oh, the pack… they’re great… now. They took a lot of
convincing though to accept me. They have rules and ceremonies for everything.
I’m still learning the ropes there. Being the “mate” of the Alpha, means not
only knowing the rules, but living them and setting an example. It’s been a
hard transition, but I do enjoy the monthly moonlight revelries. Those parties
are awesome. You should come sometime. We’re a very vampire friendly pack. Just
one rule, no drinking blood on our lands. If you need to feed, take it
somewhere else. There are many human relatives
among the pack and we have to ensure their safety.
What are some of the unique challenges that face you and
your furry friends?
Being a mixed pack, we are very
supernatural friendly in the Olde Town, we have a lot of “community” issues. If
the vampires have trouble, it’s our trouble too. If the local witches have
trouble… you get the idea. Some packs are very exclusive and don’t bother with
the other supernaturals out there. Ours believes that we are all in the
minority and need to use our collective special abilities to help each other
out. While it sounds noble, and it is, it can be very troubling. Keeping so
many supernaturals under the radar from the Acta Sanctorum is no easy feat.
Alright, the burning question--how do you feel about
vampires?
I’m totally cool with vamps. I
mean, my best friend is one, I’ve been living in a house full of vamps for
moths, and my pack is allied with a vampire clan. I don’t have issues with you
all as a species. I just get freaked out by the whole blood drinking thing. I
mean, you have no choice, right? So I can’t really fault you for it. But it
does give me the heebie jeebies.
What do you look for in your ideal partner? Is the fur coat optional or does a smooth-as-marble Scottish vampire lad have a chance?
There you go with that flirting
again. You’re hot, don’t get me wrong, but I just can’t deal with the fangs.
Sorry.
I really had never even
entertained the idea of going supernatural. Until I met Aiden, I was content
with ordinary men. I guess, the universe had other ideas for me. Though I have
to say it… Once you go wolf, you can never, ever go back!
I’ve had my share of tumultuous relationships, but I must
admit, I prefer those that present a challenge, like my darling Mia, or Lord
Liu. Do you like someone who lets you
take the lead, or do you like strong-minded lovers?
Being mated to the Alpha of the
Olde Town pack should say it all. He’s a born leader and that is such a sexy
quality. A leader isn’t just someone who rules with an iron paw. He does that
well enough, but it’s the caring and compassion he brings to the title that
really amps up the attractiveness. He’s fair and just and kind all wrapped up
in a warm fur coat.
That said, he also knows when to
roll over and let me take the lead when I’m feeling like exerting a little
dominance… if you know what I mean.
What is your idea of the perfect
evening? All great lovers have their
trade secrets. How you create the
perfect romantic atmosphere?
The
perfect evening? Is there such a thing. We carve out any alone time we can and
make that special. The alpha’s work is never done, so we are usually pretty
busy tending to pack business and the daily running and maintenance of the Wolf
Preserve. For us, romance has been replaced by quickies… lots of them… what can
I say, wolves are frisky, and I’m not complaining.
There
was one night where we stepped out for a moonlight run. Aiden knows the forest
like the back of his paw. He found us this nice little spot near the water.
Just us and the crickets. The peacefulness of it was divine.
Well, who is that lurking in the
background? Mmm…I like the looks of
him. Any friend of yours is a friend of
mine. So, are you and that strapping
bloke with the growl up for a threesome?
I mean the good kind—him, you and me?
Even if Aiden were willing, I
don’t share. Never learned that skill in Kindergarten. But, seeing as he’s
here, that must mean it’s time for me to head out. Like I said, the Alpha’s job
is never done!
Too Bad, it would have been divine.
Thanks so much for having me
here today. Be sure to read our story, Moonlight.
Moonlight
Good girls don’t wear fur, or fight over men, and they
certainly don’t run around naked, howling at the moon.
But then, no-one ever called Fallon a good girl.
As a human unofficially mated to an Alpha werewolf, Fallon
is being pressured to “become”...or be gone.
Her mate Aiden, the interim leader of the Olde Town Pack, is
in a position that demands he either choose a wolf mate...or leave the pack
forever. No matter how hot the sex with Fallon is, he can’t ignore centuries of
tradition.
Become a wolf or not. If only the choice were that simple.
Fallon’s options are further clouded by the overt presence of other females
desperate to be the Alpha’s mate. And when these bitches get serious, it’s not
just claws that come out. If Fallon wants to keep her man and take the title
she’ll have to exert a little dominance of her own.

Someone knocked on the door, a soft almost tapping sound. It
was my turn to growl, only this time it was out of frustration. I wasn’t ready
to end our moment.
“I’m busy.” Aiden shouted to the door.
“Sorry, boss.” Diana said. “Micah is here and the rest of
the council are meeting in the conference room.”
“Bad timing,” I grumbled.
“We’ll have to continue this later.” Aiden’s shoulders
sagged.
“Do you want me to
join you in council?”
“No. I need to give them the good news though. That should
get them off my back. For now, you get that sexy ass into a shower and be ready
for me to ravage you again later.” He stood and retrieved his boxers and pants.
“Is that all I am to you?” I joked as I sat up on the
desk. “Your little play thing.”
“No, that’s just one of the perks.” He stole one last kiss
and headed for the door. “I won’t be long. I promise.”
“You better not.”
He walked out, passed Diana and headed down the hallway. She
stood in the doorway and once Aiden had walked out of sight turned to me and
sneered. I sat proudly on top of Aiden’s desk, naked from the waist down, and
crossed my legs.
“You think you’re untouchable, don’t you?” Diana spat at me.
“You’re treading a very thin line, lady.”
“Tough words for a human. I could shred you right here.”
“So do it. What are you waiting for? Oh, right… Aiden would
have your head for that.”
“Accidents happen.” An evil glint shone in her eye and a
smile spread across her face.
I wasn’t going to let her scare me. I glared back at
her. “They do, don’t they? I’d feel
terrible if my fist just accidentally found your face. Cut the crap. You don’t
want me for an enemy.” As soon as I became Female Alpha, I planned to make her
life hell.
“Why, because your fucking the boss?” She rolled her eyes.
“Oh yes, I heard. Half the pack heard you. You’re quite the little slut, aren’t
you? Just walking into the boss’s office and screwing him as loud as you can
for all to hear. Bet you feel like you’re something hot, don’t you?”
I folded my arms in front of me.
“Lemme tell you a little secret. No one wants a human mating
with the Alpha. The council won’t allow it, and I won’t stand for it.”
I smiled. “Well that’s just fine by me. I won’t remain a
human for long.”
She scoffed. “Not everyone survives the transition. There
are ways to swing the odds either way.”
“Are you threatening me?”
“Why? Are you scared?” She sashayed toward me. Her smug
expression sent my blood boiling.
I gritted my teeth to stop me from saying anything else. I
knew what she was doing, trying to get me to snap and she was dangerously
close. I was no match for her yet, so I couldn’t challenge her to a fight, but
once I transitioned, she would slowly and painfully eat every last word.
“I’m going to tell you one last time.” Her voice went deadly
quiet. “Leave Aiden and this pack… for
your own safety.”
I couldn’t help the shiver of fear that threatened to reveal
itself. I turned away hoping to keep it hidden and give off the vibe that she
was not worth my attention. “Get it through your head. Aiden and I are already
mates,” I said with as much conviction as I could muster.
“You’ll never be his true mate.”
Something slammed hard into the back of my head. Before I
could register the pain the world went dark and I felt myself freefalling into
nothingness.

'Halloween is my favorite time of year and always has been.
I guess it's because horror is my genre of choice. It may also help that my
sister is Wiccan and I lived in a haunted house for years.
In October of 2000, I decided to talk to the spirits residing
in our home by use of a Ouija board, and since nobody was around who wanted to
help, I planned to do so alone. Everyone warned against this, but I was
determined.
Halloween arrived, and I went to the laundry room to get
some clean clothes... only to discover that the room was flooded. I blamed the
ghosts immediately. We called a plumber, who had to dig a hole in the front
yard to snake the drain.
The plumber left without covering the hole, and so small
children who came into our yard for tricks or treats kept falling in. It was
nice to see that, even though I was scared out of my solo Ouija discussion, the
ghosts had a sense of humor.
I have a collection of Halloween-related shorts and poems,
some scary, some not, available now on Smashwords.com for 99 cents. Below is a
very short story from the collection.
"Halloween Prop: A 5x5 Short Story," by Roy Hudson
The truck was dragging something. It looked like human corpses.
I yelled, “Great Halloween props!” And then it hit me. I was the next “prop.”
Also available now, through Firefly & Wisp Publishing,
is my Halloween-related novel Relic. Get it for Kindle for only $2.99!

Sexy Cedric: Amy Mah Vampire on Waking Up Naked in a Strange Bed with a Hangover and No Memory of How You Got There
Welcome, my darlings, to another Sexy Saturday with Cedric! Halloween is coming and I have a treat for you. (No, not that, I'm far too expensive.) Today, my guest is the always delicious Amy Mah. She writes about a problem that your host has dealt with on countless occasions: What to do when you wake up naked in a strange bed with no idea how you got there?
Waking up
Naked in a strange bed with a Hangover and no memory of how you got there.
Bed and
sleeping with people is always a problem and as I always say Sleeping with
another girl does not always mean you are a lesbian sometimes it just means the
central heating needs fixing.
So back to
waking up naked in strange bed with a hangover and no memory of how you got
there, every drinking girl's nightmare, along with the worry of where you left
your clothes.
So you
slowly open your eyes and painfully look around a strange room which from the
décor shouts rather too loudly of cheap motel …….and the way your head feel it
says it far too laud even if it whispered it.
A cheap
nylon sheet is covering you …….er ………..and that is all you have covering you
………. A fur coat would have been nice …….shut up …….you don’t mind who I kill
and eat but you object to me liking fur ….huh………….you humans are so odd if I
said a human corpse covering you would not have cared !!!
Is it all
that is covering you …er…yes you check twice and a single piece of coloured
cord around ones wrist does not count! Supporting the local cat’s home is very
charitable but does not count as clothing.
So what
happens next?
1. A man
leaves some money on the bed side table as he puts on his trousers and leaves
…………
Action:
……….you scream ……………. What just $20 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. You turn
to one side and see a naked man and two naked female fashion models in bed with
you
Action: Roll
over and go back to sleep you are ether in some guys dream or if real with the
fashion models in bed with you than you know your honour is quite safe.
3. There is
Eric the vampire from True Blood next to you in bed.
Action:
………….. Pounce on him ….he is not going to get away again!
4. You
notice the room is empty apart from a pile of female clothes which are not
yours.
Action :……….
….You know that no matter how short the skirt is you will go without underwear
today as there is just no way you are ever going to put on another persons used
underwear!
5. You look
down and see you are now a guy You have changed sex during the night !!!! And
then you hear a female voice near by asked how was it for you and shall we do
it again?
Action:…………….
Hope whatever the new extra bits you have know what they are going to do with
out you having to order an owner’s manual from Amazon, but then as you stare at
what is between your legs and now you more fear that the bigger problem will be
trying to fit back into the micro dress you had on last night
6. You look
down and you are still female but you hear a female voice near by asked how was
it for you and shall we do it again.
Action:
……………. Telling her you have a headache only works on guys so you look on the
bright side no matter what went on its now too late and turn to her thinking at
least you won’t get pregnant.
7. You look
down at your hand and discover a gold band on your wedding finger and snoring
coming from someone near you in bed.
Action……………….
Panic ! all you can remember are day glow cocktails with strange names like
oblivion and something so pretty that it could not be alcoholic………. You can
only remember talking to two people last night 1. a long distant truck driver
who got his tattoos while in jail and 2. the bartender you are really praying
it is the bartender next to you and then you remember the bartender was female
and remembering the tattoos still pray it is the bartender!
8. You look
around the empty room and remember that you booked yourself in last night just
after being sick over the guy you fancied and you did not even remember eating
peas. But he refused to take you home so you crashed here.
Action:……………….You
pray to all the gods you know thanking them for the pounding head and the
feeling of still wanting to be sick as it could have been far worse!

Description
Today's world
is difficult for everyone, especially teenagers. They face the stresses of
school, deciding whom to date, and the biggie of sex, just to name a few.
Imagine all of those things ten times worse, and you might get an idea of what
it's like being a living, breathing teenage vampire. At last, the world can
read about the life of a girl with good teeth, her problems with strong
sunlight that gave her spots, and the sunblock that made her hair go yucky and
produced more spots. Yes, sunlight was dangerous, as she could be the first
teenager in history to die from terminal acne! In her everyday life, older
vampires expected her to walk about at night in the traditional female uniform,
a see-through, 18th-century nightdress, without undies! Well, this female vampire
knew why the cold winds blowing along the corridors were called, "male
winds," so she wore her see-through nightdress over jeans and a very thick
jumper. To be sure that people would still know she was a vampire, the jumper
had a very large, pink bat on it. And as to guys, well, it was normal for a
girl to dream about guys; she just wished the dreams could have involved
chocolates and holding hands, not leaping out at someone, ripping off his
shirt, and demanding to know what blood type he was (at least not on the first
date).
About the
Author
The Author
Amelia Mah is a 20 something snarky, sarcastic and cynical author who has a
very popular blog of how she sees the world from the point of view of a modern
teenage vampire. Following the success of her first book "FANGS RULE A
girls guide to being a vampire" she had now expanded the idea of life as a
teenage vampire into a full novel Amelia has given her avatar her own name so
you can see the world first hand from a very bored teenage vampire that has been
forced to remain a teenager for far too long She may have very good teeth and
the ability to hang from ceilings but life is far from easy.

We live in a world
where mass shootings, baby killing, and child molestation are running rampant.
You can’t turn on the news without several of these stories hitting you in the
face. Maybe it’s always been this crazy, or perhaps it’s just that the Internet
and social media allows us to see more of it. Whatever the case, there is a lot
of insanity in the world. So much so that even horror fiction has a hard time
keeping up.
It used to be that
horror fiction was horrific. There were depraved stories, scary stories, and
brutally twisted stories created by horror writers that actually scared people.
This is getting harder for horror writers to accomplish. Competing with real
life can be one hell of a challenge. Writers have to go to more and more
extremes to turn readers’ heads (or stomachs) because real life has gotten so
gruesome. Mothers and fathers killing their children, kids shooting their
classmates, priests molesting children—this stuff is hard to compete with. Don’t
blame real life on horror writers, blame horror writers on real life. We only
mimic what we see.
People are jaded.
The most horrific events, unfortunately so, roll off our backs. We’re becoming
immune, and that is a sad thing. Not that we condone the violence that
surrounds us in real life, but we accept it. Not only do we accept it, but we
accept it in many cases without even giving it more than a cursory thought.
Personally, I’ve
never been one to blame real life violence on art. I don’t believe listening to
Ozzy Osbourne can cause you to commit suicide, unless of course you’re already predisposed
to killing yourself. Likewise, I don’t believe reading a book about serial
killers or watching a slasher movie will send you on a bloody rampage. Blaming
real-life violence on art is a cop out. This is how parents avoid taking responsibility for not raising their children properly.
Art simply imitates
life. Hell, some of my best ideas are inspired by real life.
We live in a world
where a zombie apocalypse looks good. A zombie Apocalypse, in fact, looks
preferable to most of the horrors that we see every day of our lives. At least
we stand a fighting chance with the walking dead. At least we can outrun them.
We can’t outrun the
violence that surrounds us every day of our lives. We can’t hide from the
psychos and the rapists and the child molesters. All we can do is try to expose
the, and that is, I believe, part of what horror fiction does.
Yeah, the zombies
don’t seem so bad in the face of all that, now do they?

How do you know that you are writing what you love to write? You know it
because you can't contain yourself, you jump up and down in excitement and
really can't wait to see what happens next.
This may mean for instance, that you have been writing a whole wrong genre
for you. For me the big change came when I discovered I love to write fantasy. I
felt that excitement. I felt my hands trembling as I wrote down my words, and I
couldn't fathom not writing anything else.
I feel the same kind of excitement when I write on play. They are the same.
Both are connected to my soul.
Yes, there is that word again: soul. I believe that writing, like all forms
of creativity, is connected to the soul. It's passion. I define passion as soul
sparks, the sure fire way you know that you are doing what you love and what you
were born to do.
So, how do you discover what you love to write? By trying. I tried
paranormal romance for instance, finished a book in it, and realized I didn't
give a damn about the characters. I had a completely different experience when I
wrote my novella MindScreens. I do love writing anything but writing
MindScreens: oh my goodness. It was completely freewritten (no plot or anything,
just an idea), it made me giggle and feel all gleeful and I couldn't wait to
write again.
You also know you were meant to write something when you feel your fear
kick in majorly. The intenser the passion is, the harder your fear comes poke
it's big fat nose around the corner and roars his bum off until you sit
shivering in the corner.
So, when fear comes to bully you, you shouldn't cower away, in stead you
should be very very happy because it means you have found your passion in
writing.
Some of you already may know what you love
to write, others may have a hard time with it. To inspire them I have made a
list of genres you could try out, and I have added non fiction too. You could
start brainstorming topics that you are interested in, that's going to be a lot
of fun to begin with. I can highly recommend going to Squidoo and start writing
there. It's fun to do and you get to flaunt your knowledge on a specific
subject.
A completely incomplete genre list, just to get you going
Science Fiction
Alternate history
Fantasy
High Fantasy (lotr et al)
Magic
Historical
Mystery
Horror
Humor
Detectives
Thriller
Romance
Paranormal romance
Just get the basic ingredients for a story (a character, a setting, and
something that changes for that character) and just freewrite. You could even
use the same character in each story, and tweak the setting to the genre, and
you are good to go.
This discovery is going to be a fun little journey for you :)

Mindscreens
Jessamine Harper has it all: University course she loves,
job as a Top-level Healer and dream man in the form of desirable Professor
Lucas Corwin; but when Corwin breaks down and is taken away by the Mindcops,
the world that Jessamine knows begins to unravel. Does the boy she hate, Ben,
hold the key to her past as well as her future? Can she escape the clutches of
the Mindcops herself? Only time will tell, and does Jess have much of that
left?
Excerpt
"What's the emergency?" An equally snappy voice answered straight away, "Healer Harper,
report to Med-Office at the south entrance. Slip and fall, going through
scanner now, but judging from the bone sticking out I'd say it's broken."
Grade A injury, good thing I hadn't eaten.
"I'm gonna miss class,
you have to report me!"
"Not my
problem, now scoot along."
I pushed my Jotter into my bag, shouted: "Medical emergency!" and started to run
down the hallway. Left, right, down the stairs, swerve around some slobbering
kissers, and then down the long corridor to the Med-Office, my voice getting
hoarser and hoarser from shouting at people. The curse of being a Grade A
Healer, only getting called when there's a big emergency. Better learn how to
run fast if you want to save someone's life.
